I might!

My typically male take on weddings is that they are primarily about the bride. It's her big day and you are there in a very secondary role, to support her and make her proud.

Having said that, I am by no means against marriage or weddings. Generally, I applaud the idea of two people making a life-long commitment and celebrating this union openly with their friends and loved ones.

The religious overtones of marriage are obviously significant and very important to many people, but they're quite lost on me. I am sure many couples wed in churches because churches are grand places to be and there can be no real sense of occasion, at a wedding, unless there's a grand, romantic venue in which to hold it. The best weddings I have attended, have included ceremonies in spectacular, old churches and whilst some ceremonies seem to last a lot longer than others, there's no better setting for such an important ceremony than a church.

On the question of whether or not I'd marry in a church, given my secular ways, I am quite uncertain. I would be a hypocrite to use a place of worship as the setting for my marriage, with no religious convictions. Paying lip service to faith by attending church in the months and weeks leading up to the big day would feel wrong too.

So, what's the alternative? A civil ceremony in some sterile public building fills me with dread. The cliche image of weddings on beaches amongst the palm trees is similarly revolting and I do love the sense of occasion a great space provides.

No, there's nothing like a beautiful church. I guess I'm going to be a hypocrite, unless I have some divine epiphany between now and the day I say I do.
